“Sixth Sense” technology

To what extent would technology embrace our lives is a question on each of our mind.

I guess that’s a battle we all humans keep fighting constantly to make our lives better with each passing day!
Here’s a wonderful video showcasing the endless possibilities of human kind striving for a better tomorrow or shall I say changing the tomorrow!

Have a look and be amazed for what you are about to see!

This video runs for about 13 odd minutes so please be patient…

At TEDIndia, Pranav Mistry demos several tools that help the physical world interact with the world of data — including a deep look at his SixthSense device and a new, paradigm-shifting paper “laptop”.
In an onstage Q&A, Mistry says he’ll open-source the software behind SixthSense, to open its possibilities to all.

And if that’s not enough… expect more!

This is just the beginning!!!

What in the name of English?

1999 to be exact was the year when my English got f*#@$d up big time!

It was the time when I got exposed to the concept of chatting. Until then all I knew was probably sitting in an Irani restaurant or maybe my college canteen or office pantry sipping coffee with your folks and talking worldly issues!

Until 1999…

Then I knew something called as Yahoo messenger, MSN chat and so on…

Life from that fateful year onwards has not been the same. I am sure. Every form of communication got affected big time.

  • Hand written letters were sent minimally (Bad times for Post offices)
  • So was greeting cards
  • Long distance calls got reduced (Imagine the money you save on int’l calls)
  • Personal photographs were sent very rarely

Phew! I am sure there’s still more… but the ones mentioned above take up the maximum votes.

Email came and like the chat engine changed everything… Click a button and you receive everything in your inbox. Letters, photos, videos, birthday/ anniversary messages.

Something else changed drastically; I reckon!

Yeah, our verbal and written English. What a bad time for the guys at Oxford, Cambridge dictionary printers.

Evr since no 1 goes by d bk.

This s what v hav reducd englsh 2.

And there’s more…

Check out this site and you’ll know what I mean.

Another reason for this sudden change in conversational tactics is time.
Do you think these days’ people have time for long and lovely conversations?
You just need to pass on your message and ensure that the other person has received it no matter in what form.

While I truly understand and respect what this lovely language has given all of us, I must give it the due credit it deserves. While in all my post I avoid using such slang/ characters, I have used them to the max to give a certain mood to this post. Though it’s not in my taste to use them.

D lst ltr I evr wrote 2 any1 wuz my fiancée, now my wife. Twas ruffly 4-6 pgs of boring mtrl. Since then I’ve nevr written prsnl ltrs 2 ny1.

Paper Art

I was browsing the web when I gradually stumbled upon (yes on www.stumbleupon.com) some amazing work especially done on paper. If you thought paper was mainly meant for writing and reading (As in magazines, newspapers etc) then think again…

Intricate cut-outs on rice paper by Bovey Lee.

Bovey Lee was born in Hong Kong and moved to the United States in 1993. She works with and combines a wide range of media, including drawing, painting, digital media, and most recently paper cutting. Since 2005, Bovey’s paper cutout drawings seek to preserve, promote, and extend an ancient Chinese folk art through invention by adding personal and contemporary elements that have not been used in the traditional craft before.

Beautiful paper cut outs by Yuken Teruya.

The trees come to life from intricate cuts from daily objects such as toilet paper rolls, newspapers, and shopping bags. Indeed wonderful to view!

This is a very well-made dress, created out of a phone book by Jolis Paons.

Paons says of the Paper Dress she designed and created for her Creative Processes class, “I pleated, stuck, sewed, and glued everything by hand.”

It’s amazing what you can do with simple resources when creativity is involved. Think of all the phonebooks that go to waste!

Thrifty Dutch designer Anneke Jakobs created with recycled Chiquita Chandelier.

Created while a student at the Utrecht School of Product Design, the eco-luxe chandelier consists of cut out banana shapes from ten Chiquita cartons that the designer rescued from the streets. All of the chandelier elements are secured with desktop paper fasteners. The chandelier is for subtle ambient lighting only, but we are most impressed by the designer’s creative use of castaway materials for an upscale, brand-subverting object.

Ecoist handbags are suprisingly made from “recycled candy wrappers, food packages, soda labels, subway maps, newspapers, and other waste-bound materials.”

Normal is boring

You get to be a “Real hero” just once in a lifetime.

All the other times you are just one amongst the crowd.

When you are the hero, just go full throttle and be at your best.

And while doing that… be different, think different and always do things that will raise a brow!

It’s the month of marriages. As I am drafting this note, various alliances are being set, decisions are being made and other wedding plans are being set.

Wow! It’s a great time really.

You feel the whole universe is focusing on you while you are busy working out other things!

Last week I got this invite from one of my close friends and a dear colleague and then I thought of putting this on my blog. Just by merely looking at the card, I could imagine the rush of emotions going thru his head.

Read the card and have fun!

And when I received the wedding invite, I thought of compiling some amazing and funny wedding invites that people have done…

I was surprised to find very few such work of art while googling, I am sure there are so many wonderful cards being conceived.

I think this is what makes an event memorable and different from the others.

It cuts through the routine and makes you stand out in a crowd.

This is what we have learnt in advertising too!

Always be different when you can. So many advertisers spend millions of bucks to make their brands stand out in a crowd. You are no different. And this is what makes us humans different, different from each other!

And remember, this is one big moment. This applies not just for your marriage.

You can do the same thing with your birthday invites, house warmings or any other event where you are planning to send invites. Be it in the form of words, pictures or any other formats you can to add your touch of personality.

People tend to remember you better when they stumble upon such an invite.

And as Fido Dido says… Normal is boring!
