Before you kick that bucket…

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?
No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep and cows:

and so on it goes…

A poem written by W.H Davies

I vividly remember having learnt this poem while I was in my 4th grade.
My English teacher made me read this poem over and over again to the point that I really hated the poet for having created such a complicated poem which I was supposed to by heart and recite in front of the whole class. I really used to hate those recitations in class in front of all my peers… All they used to do is find faults and correct us on our diction!
I found it utterly boring and ever so complicated.. it was then.

I am glad today that I am writing this post since I do have that time to stand, stare and ponder over those good ‘ol days where we had so much time to stand and stare, yet we were constantly told by our elders to do things that they liked and not what we wanted to do.

This post is about reminding you what you are, what you wanna be and what you wanna do with your life.
Take time to see where you really wanna be let’s say five years down the line.

You may be a professional, a student, a housewife any one for that matter! Each and every person should have a plan chartered out for himself.
As I am writing this I still don’t and I really wish I could actually know where I will be few years down the line.
Hence, I am writing this post. Maybe if not me atleast I could reach out to my readers who will get that spark and plan their lives well.

How much do we really need to earn?
How much do we need to spend?
How much money do we need?
Do we need to live only for others? Or ourselves?
Can we chart our own course in life?
Should we imbibe the same thoughts to our kids? Or give them enough space so that they can do all that we couldn’t?
So many questions come to my mind.

Whatever is in store can’t we accept that and live the life that we wanna live? I have had friends, acquaintances, colleagues who did what they were told while they wanted to be something, someone else.
I have actually met very few people in my life who did what they wanted to do and stood by their ideologies. This post is a way to salute them for what they have done with their lives. Realized their dreams.

I always wanted to take up architecture as my career. Build structures that are a reflection of what I am. Maybe that’s too much to even dream but hey why not?
Why have dreams that are smaller?
Why not dream bigger?

You know in the rush of things we tend to miss so many things in life.
While we are happy and focused we can grab a lot of things on the way.

It’s like taking a good hike and also enjoying some time in the wilderness!
Now imagine you are on a highway you never wanted, waiting desperately for a bus you never wanted to catch, but have you got a choice?
Someone has told you to take that road and catch that bus. Even worse, imagine what you missed while staying in the hot sun, drenched in sweat and cursing your fate!

I really wish at this stage of my life that I should do all those things that I ever wished.
Go on a long hike, run away for a few days with my wife to some place where we don’t know any one, get married with my wife all over again, do some social work, go on a spiritual journey, go to a rock concert and get fully drunk…a tattoo maybe! and many, many things….

It’s just one life that we have got.

And before we kick that bucket… shouldn’t we live life to its fullest?

Well, what’s your bucket list?

Penn Singam… A must watch

We have been seeing the promos of Kalaingar’s “Penn Singam” way too many times on his network of channels.

If it is Kalaingar himself who has taken all the pains, passion and the points to draft such a wonderful movie… Then I must say that we have to watch it.

It’s amazing how he found that time to write a story like this amidst all the chaos and mayhem in his political career!

The last attempt he made was “Ooliyin Osai” starring the ultra beautiful Vineeth… Oops sorry… Ultra handsome (Is he?… whatever) and the vivacious and the most deserving pair opposite him i.e Keerthi Chawla (You have to see her other X-rated movies… Watch it!)

Ok coming to Penn… So this is entirely written by the man himself.

If that’s the case, why are they promoting only the item songs of this movie?

The movie has a USP*, value for who has written the story, dialogues etc… Isn’t it?

Then why are they selling a movie purely on it’s item numbers? That too with least known names like Lakshmi Rai and Lawrence…

So with this the USP of the movie is reduced only to its worthless item songs, isn’t it?

I’d not even watch this cheap, vulgar and atrocious song on youtube or any channel even for free.

Penn singam… Really a must watch???

*USP: Unique selling proposition

So strange…

Sometimes weird things happen to the best of us. Really.

I was just about to leave from office yesterday when a call came and sent a shiver down my spine!

There was this voice, strong, powerful and all consuming force. This gentleman was practically devoid of any feelings whatsoever.

But any case, he seemed helpful, just doing his job.

He told me in a hurried tone “You haven’t paid your bills yet for the past 3 months. You are given just 2 days extra after which your case will be submitted in court. You have a balance amount of KD 59.5 which you can pay in any nearby booth”

Guess where the call was from?

Zain!
Oh please!

I bought a Zain E-go wi-fi from one of their booths at 360 degree mall.
It was meant to be a one month test drive for me which I wanted to try so that I can use it whenever the Wi-fi in my flat goes way too low in terms of it speed.
I consumed all of it around 2 GB worth of downloads and just forgot about it.

Unless I don’t use it, I don’t pay right! And moreover I had already consumed my quota for that month.

When I bought this piece, I had given my contact numbers, civil ID etc but no SMS, calls, emails etc came to me to remind me of my due payment. And all of a sudden I am expected to pay it? And I was even told that they were not able to get in touch with me.

When they couldn’t contact me then, how can they get in touch with me now? Strange isn’t it?

Anyways, its better to be safe from burdens now than repent later.
My urgency in this issue got better off me and I hurried to Souq Sharq to go and pay the bill rather than attracting such problems.

Finally I managed to pay the bill and call back at the same number to inform them that the amount has been paid with no overdue payments.

I swore myself that I’ll be happy with whatever Wi-fi strength I get at my place and not run around for such gadgets offered by these telecom companies.

Atleast I’ll get a good night’s sleep.

50+ and still running…

Unlike the past I guess this will be one hell of a summer.

We are still in June and it seems like we have been sitting in an oven for more than a year. Last week it easily crossed 55+ (I’d actually add more degrees but then that would scare the hoots off you!)

No seriously, there were so many incidents of kids in school who suffered sun strokes.

And as if it was only a sign of hint to school leaders, it was then declared that all schools will remain closed much before than what was planned.

A cause celebre for kids so to speak.

Now tempratures are still soaring enough but well within 50 degrees.

Can you imagine what could happen when you have a 50 degree weather?

At this rate, you don’t need to use a water heater. The water that comes out of the tap itself is unhygenic to the skin…
You turn on your car’s AC to cool you off. Imagine, it starts working by the time you reach your office.
You go home daily for lunch during weekdays, this weather prevents you from doing that. You’d rather stay in office and get your lunch
It’s better to stay home than explore out-of-home options like shopping, leisure activities etc
What if your locality faces constant power cut. Imagine your building AC not working, So is your fridge, TV and the lift. Use the stairs… both up and down!

To top this up there are sandstorms…

And we hear a lot more stories from many acquaintances during this summer.

How I miss my home country! I wanna go home! and so on…

Welcome to Kuwait!

Some doctors are just too good!

Have you ever wondered how a chance meeting can just change a life for ever?

Well, it just did to me.

I was on a short trip to South of India earlier this year and from then on my attitude towards life changed completely.

It was as if destined that I actually bumped into a clinic there when I met this doctor. And I don’t think I have met any such person ever… With all due respects to my friends, well wishers some of whom are doctors by profession… but this one person was different.

As if we were supposed to meet by any odds, we just became very friendly and talked and talked for hours… I guess that night was in many ways a revelation of sorts…

To begin with, he is 10 years younger than me. I mean just 27 years old. Recently finished his MBBS. He’s already employed as a govt doctor and taking care of cases that are immediate and require critical care. Very soon he will be doing further specialization in anesthetic or some similar level (If I understood this correctly!)

But yes, this doesn’t make him a special person I agree.

Here is a doctor who wants to be in the same village where he has spent his 27 years of his life and give back what he got from his home town. Imagine the professionals today (Me included!)… the moment we get some status and respect in society in terms of designations, titles etc… we raise our head high in the air as if we are so far sighted… we head towards foreign shores… And then there are people like this doctor who want to stay in their home country and give back what they got from their motherland. Truly amazing thought!

It’s a small and virtually a sleepy district.
I mean imagine you are from any of the metros and you have had a chance to be here. By 08:00 pm people wind up their work and head home. Shops are closed at the same time. Streets are almost dark and deserted with very few cycles, bikes, share autos and govt buses roaming the streets… I sometimes wonder how can a place like this accept a person like me… I mean I am a night person. My day starts only after eight…. and here’s a place where all ends at this time…

I would surely not dig deeper into his past, but after having spoken to him I could imagine his upbringing. If he is what he is today, I would surely credit this to another usually unsung hero… his mother. Troubled brewed into her paradise early on but she kept her head high and brought up her son in the most amazing way. She is still working odd hours and truly by God’s grace, her son is a doctor today! This may really sound filmy but a true reflection of our society today. We may fail to notice all these but ultimately these are the things that are worthy of mention and not the other material things man accomplishes! A house, car etc will come to us anytime but such upbringing and outlook towards life is what makes life worth living…

Thats not enough…

I was all the more amazed to hear from this gentleman that he has 36 kids!!!
Yes, he’s responsible towards 36 kids. Isn’t that amazing? I mean just imagine, your life, your thoughts involves around raising 36 kids. These kids are sourced out from various villages across his district and all these kids are orphans. Some are abandoned. Some are neglected child. Some lost their parents in some natural calamity…

I was taken aback with this number. I mean these days we barely raise one kid decently and here is a young man, just married and having a life of his own who manages an orphanage… Truly amazing! What’s more? He has a wife who truly supports his cause and every thought!

This doctor does not want them to be sent to foster homes. His objective is to raise these kids well, give them proper education and make them responsible citizens who will carry this light as they grow. I was touched beyond words. So much so that I addressed him as Sir or Doctor than call by his first name. I even touched his feet for what he has been doing…

I guess in my lifetime, I have rarely seen such people with mighty heart and amazing will to do what he has been doing. And kudos to him and his mom always standing by his decision…

It’s a huge responsibility and a very tough path to even take up what he has been doing… And I am sure God is watching all this and extremely happy with what this amazing person is upto…
