Passion points

No matter how much we work, earn and grow old, there is some child within all of us.

How many times have we encountered it ourselves?

To the outside world we are this serious and responsible lot who project a very professional side!

Don’t we have any desires? Passion points?

I guess each one of us have such passion point. Some generously flaunt it while some hide it under their skin.

What is a passion point?

Anything that sets your heart racing. Anything that keeps your life going… It could be a hobby, it could be something which you don’t do it normally. I mean, you actually take time to do it during your sweet times… or let’s say that you create those sweet times to actually spend sometime with it.

Stamps, coins collecting are passion points. We used to do that as kids. I had a friend who used to collect bus/ train/ movie tickets, matchboxes. Collecting miniature cars/ planes etc is another passion. But that needs a huge space and this is considered a passion of the rich and famous. Reading is one of the most common passion point for many people. So is listening to music and watching movies and I seriously belong to this category. Well not just that… Anything associated with music or movies. Like the trivia, the people behind the scenes etc. Sports for many is a great passion point. I mean look at Cricket… I have friends who remember every single players score statistics which is really common amongst cricket fans.

A colleague of mine is obsessed with Toys. He hails from Manila, Philippines and a visit to his house actually prompted me to write this post. His house and primarily all rooms in his house are stocked with toys. You name it cars, gadgets, super heroes, planes, bikes everything is there neatly packed in every nook and corner!

And his son has each and every collectible of the Spiderman franchise. T-shirts, caps, badges, masks, tea coasters and the list goes on!

God I promised myself that I’d never take my 6 year old son to his house ever!

He’ll go crazy looking at the awesome collection.

Passions as long as it does not cause that great deal in terms of money is fine. But when money is involved big time then it is a cause of concern.
But my question is why do we have these kind of passions? Is it really important? I mean are we really going to do something with it?
Ok fine. Once we have established our likeness to a certain thing, we start delving further into it. Start collecting it. Then it takes space. Then it takes more space both physically and mentally. Then what?

I remember vividly, when I started working first in the middleast, I used to buy one CD everyday! I mean every single day! Imagine the space in my wardrobe used to overflow with CDs.
You name the band and I had all their albums. Then I just found reasons and ways to distribute them amongst friends and colleagues. Of course only after ripping them onto drives.

But during this process, one thing I noticed is that, it was my way of relieving out my stress. The work pressure was killing. My way of burning out the stress was to buy CDs.
That’s weird if I think of it now.
But probably I couldn’t think of any other way. It proved to be very expensive affair.

These passions all said and done play an important role in our lives. They evolve our thinking.
They let us broaden our knowledge and scope of things. They introduce us to a world we never knew. They provide us an escape that we need so badly.

Like they said ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’

What’s your passion point?
